The Beginner’s Guide to TRX with Free Full Body Workout

TRX, what a wonderful tool. Have you ever tried it? If you want to add some total body resistance exercises to your routine, TRX is the perfect tool to get started.

But, what is TRX you may ask?

The TRX Suspension Trainer is a simple, versatile full-body workout fitness tool created by former US Navy SEAL, Randy Hetrick. It consists of a set of straps from which you can perform hundreds of different types of resistance training exercises. TRX is mainly effective in developing strength, balance, flexibility, movement, and core stability. My most favorite sentence to use in my workouts with clients is definitely “TRX is All core All the time.” Whichever exercise you perform on the TRX, you always work your core. This is pretty unique!

Why should you try TRX?

As I mentioned earlier, TRX is a unique training tool, because it works with the user’s body weight and gravity to accomplish a particular exercise move. Which means YOU are in control! It’s entirely up to you how strong your exercise will be.

Traditional training generally works on one muscle/muscle group at a time and is done in a linear fashion, whereas suspension training allows you to move your entire body into positions you never thought were possible, so you are working multiple muscles and joints simultaneously. It improves your core stability, and also gets your heart rate going to provide a great cardiovascular workout.

TRX suspension training is a great workout for all fitness levels because you’re using your own body weight and controlling the angles – inclination - and movements yourself.

How often should you use the TRX?

As the Suspension Trainer is an entire body training system that’s extremely functional, you don’t have to worry about scheduling different body parts for different days.  Also, the use of a TRX doesn’t require as much time, you can do 10-20 minutes workouts daily. But, you will certainly see great results with 2 or 3 good TRX workouts a week, as well. 

Where can I do TRX Suspension Training?

The answer is simple: Anywhere, Anytime! You can anchor the TRX to a door (e.g. at home, in a hotel room), a workout bar (e.g. in a gym, a playground), a tree (e.g. in the park, in your garden). In fact, you just need an anchor point with enough height and strong enough to hold your body weight.
